Year 6: Inspired by artists
In most of out art topics, the children learn about a specific artist or genre as a class. However, as the young people in Year 6 prepare for their transition to Secondary School, I am keen to allow them an opportunity to explore their own sources of interest and inspiration and to become more independent in their artwork.
During this half-term, therefore, Year 6 have researched an artist that they have chosen for themselves and then created a piece of work inspired by their style.
Artists selected included Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso and Bridget Riley. Some of these were artists that we had studied in previous years and some were new.
The students could choose their medium and had to take responsibility for producing a finished piece of work within the time frame. This was difficult for some of them but they rose to the challenge:
