Year 3 & 4: Van Gogh Sunflowers
The Year 3s and 4s have been studying the use of colour in Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings and in the last few lessons, have been looking in detail at Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, specifically the version known as F456. They went on to paint their own pictures of sunflowers using some of the features that they had observed in the focus painting.
The children thought about the structure of sunflowers and practised drawing them from different angles. They took great care with the underdrawing of their painting:
Here are some beautifully observed drawings from children in Mrs Price's class:
Once the children were happy with their drawing, they were ready to paint.
The children have been working on their watercolour technique and some experimented with ‘dropping in’ and mixing colour on the page:
Although we took Van Gogh’s Sunflowers as our inspiration, the children’s paintings show great creativity and individuality.
The children worked with great focus and attention to the details of their artwork.
