Year 1 & 2: Weather painting
The Year 1s and 2s have been learning about the weather in their topic work and in art, used wax resist and watercolour to create a weather painting.
We talked about the fact that oil and water do not mix and considered how this might affect our painting. The children began by drawing a horizon, rain and puddles using oil pastel. They could choose to add a rainbow if they wished and we discussed how rainbows were formed from refracted light.
We found that our painting looked much more effective if we used plenty of water and paint:
The children were amazed to see the original drawing shine through the wet paint.
