Book of half term
This term, we have been delighted to relaunch our ‘Book of the Half-Term’ initiative in our Years 3-6 classes.
Thanks to a grant from the Willingham British School Trust, we were able to purchase five copies of twenty-four recently published texts ranging from the wacky, illustrated ‘Pugs of the Frozen North’ to the gothic-lite historical novel ‘The Ghost of Gosswater’. Over the next two years (at least!) these fantastic books will spend a half-term in each KS2 classroom before being moved on to readers anew. We believe that, in the words of Teresa Cremin et al.; ‘the act of reading is profoundly social.’
By reading the same books as their peers, with no other agenda than enjoying books that they may not previously have come across, we are confident (and excited!) that pupils will grow in their reading for 'pleasure' journeys.
